What this solves
The Acropolis opens at 08:00 but the queue forms by 07:30 in summer. With a timed e-ticket slot, the calculus changes. This tool scores the expected crowd level (1-10) for your chosen month and start time, and recommends a specific 90-minute window with the lowest score. April and May are the highest-crowd months; November to February are the quietest; mid-week is consistently better than weekends.

How to read the result
A score of 1-3 means an empty Acropolis (rare, only happens November-February mornings). A score of 4-6 is comfortable with manageable crowds. A score of 7-10 means you will queue at the Propylaea for photos. The recommendation panel picks the lowest-scoring 90-minute window for your month. With a timed e-ticket, the score matters less because you skip the queue, but the on-site crowding is what it is.
The "skip queue" benefit of the timed e-ticket is real for the entry line but does nothing for the Propylaea bottleneck at the top of the path. That bottleneck is what the crowd score reflects.
Limitations
- The crowd score is a model based on monthly visitor volume and typical daily distribution. Real-day variation can swing ±2 points (e.g. cruise ships).
- Timed e-ticket availability is patchy. In July and August the 08:00-09:00 slots sell out 1-2 weeks ahead; off-peak (Nov-Mar) most slots are open.
- The "first thing in the morning" advice has a literal limit: the site opens at 08:00 sharp and the gate is closed before then. Showing up at 07:00 puts you at the front of the walk-up queue, but you still wait.
- The free first-Sunday-of-month rule (Nov-Mar) creates a spike that overrides the day-of-week baseline.
FAQ
What time should I really arrive?
If you have a timed e-ticket slot of 08:00, arrive at the south slope (the official e-ticket entrance, near the Acropolis Museum) by 07:45. Walk-up: 07:00-07:15 gets you near the front of the walk-up queue.
Is sunset worth it?
Yes — and it's the only way to see the marble glow golden. The site closes at sunset (variable, 17:00 in winter to 20:00 in summer). Last-entry is 30 min before close. Late entry gives you a 60-90 min visit with dropping light and falling crowds.
When is the free first Sunday a bad idea?
Always. The free Sundays in winter (Nov-Mar) draw 2-3x the normal crowd for that month. If you go, arrive at 08:00 and exit by 10:30; the queue to enter after that is 60+ minutes.

About this tool
Built because most Acropolis timing guides give one piece of advice ("go early") without telling you how much earlier. The crowd score is calibrated to the published visitor counts by month, scaled to a 1-10 index. Not affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.
